Academic staff: Department of Physiology

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sutada Lotinun is a faculty member and the Director of the Center of Excellence in Skeletal Disorders and Enzyme Reaction Mechanism. She has extensive experience in bone biology, metabolic bone diseases, bone histomorphometry and molecular biology. She spent 15 years working in US at Mayo Clinic, Yale and Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). Dr. Lotinun used genetic tools to study the role of specific genes on bone homeostasis. The ultimate goal of her research work is to find novel strategies for the development of therapeutic treatment for osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases. She has collaborated with Dr. Asada Leelahavanichkul at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine to determine a physiological significance of FcRIIB in the regulation of bone turnover and bone regeneration using FcRIIB knockout, an animal model for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). She is also interested in determining skeletal changes in thalassemic mice. In collaboration with Assoc Prof. Saovaros Svasti at the Thalassemia Research Center, Mahidol University, she identified the effects of chronic kidney disease and iron overload on bone metabolism and bone regeneration using heterozygous -globin knockout thalassemic mice.
