Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University Hosts Special Lecture “Evidence-Based Care for Older Adults” Highlighting Oral Healthcare Approaches for Older Adults
Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University organized a special lecture on “Evidence-Based Care for Older Adults” on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Executive Committee Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Vach Vidyavaddhana Building. The lecture aimed to promote knowledge and exchange perspectives on oral healthcare and dental treatment for older adults, with an emphasis on applying evidence-based care to the planning and provision of dental services appropriate to individual contexts and needs.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Gerry McKenna, Chair of Oral Health Services Research and Gerodontology and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, Queen’s University Belfast. He shared knowledge on concepts and approaches to dental care for older adults, with an emphasis on applying evidence-based care to support the planning and provision of appropriate oral healthcare services in accordance with the context and needs of older adults, contributing to the promotion of oral health and quality of life in the long term.
During the event, Prof. Thantrira Porntaveetus, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, delivered welcoming remarks to the participants, joined by faculty members from the Geriatric Dentistry and Special Patients Care (GSCU) program, the Department of Prosthodontics, the Department of Microbiology, and the Department of Community Dentistry, before proceeding to the exchange of academic knowledge and experiences.
The activity provided an opportunity for faculty members, staff, students, and interested participants to exchange knowledge and perspectives on geriatric dentistry, while highlighting the importance of designing dental care that responds to the needs of older adults. This serves as part of the preparation of the dental profession for the continuing transition toward an aging society.
