Highlights:
Producing specialized pediatric dentists with advanced knowledge and expertise in the field of pediatric dentistry is the primary goal of this program. Upon completing the program, graduates will be well-prepared and eligible to apply for the examination, leading to the issuance of a Specialist Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry by the Dental Council of Thailand. This program is open to students from both the public and private sectors.
Course Background
Previously, the Department of Pediatric Dentistry offered two postgraduate programs: a Master of Science (M.Sc.) program with a 2-year duration of study and a residential dentist program requiring a 3-year duration of study. Recognizing the limited number of students each program could accommodate, the department acknowledged the necessity for a more diverse range of programs to accommodate a larger number of students. Therefore, the department has introduced the Higher Graduate Diploma in Clinical Sciences in Pediatric Dentistry (International Program), welcoming Thai and international students from both the public and private sectors. It is anticipated that the program’s enrollment will grow in the future. The program has been admitting students since the academic year 2021 and is currently ongoing.
Principles and Rationale
According to the Ministry of Public Health’s policy, which aims to improve healthcare standards for the Thai population, particularly in oral healthcare, there is a necessity to produce more specialized pediatric dentists to meet both current and future demands. This initiative provides an alternative avenue for dentists interested in pursuing further education and specialized training in pediatric dentistry. Upon completing their studies, these dentists will have the opportunity to apply for an examination to obtain approval for a Specialist Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry (equivalent to a diploma) from the Dental Council of Thailand.
