Chulalongkorn University and UNSW Strengthen Strategic Collaboration in Research, Innovation, and Regional Impact.
On 5 October 2026, Chulalongkorn University welcomed a delegation from the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney), Australia, led by Professor Julien Epps, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (8 Schools), and Dr. Hamid Rokny, Director of the UNSW BioMedical Machine Learning Laboratory.
The visit provided an important opportunity for both institutions to exchange perspectives and explore future collaboration across research, technology, education, innovation, and industry translation, with a shared interest in creating meaningful impact across Thailand, Australia, and the broader ASEAN region.
The meeting brought together senior leaders and representatives from Chulalongkorn University, including Professor Dr. Rungsun Rerknimitr, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University; Associate Professor Palanee Ammaranond, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University; Associate Professor Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Professor Dr. Sawekchai Tangaramvong, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Engineering; Assistant Professor Dr. Nadnudda Rodthongkum, Head of the Synthetic Biology, Biosensor and Advanced Biotechnology Platform; and Professor Dr. Thantrira Porntaveetus, Vice Dean for Research and Innovation, Faculty of Dentistry, and Chair of the Committee for Advancing Chulalongkorn University Towards Global Excellence.
The discussion focused on how Chulalongkorn University and UNSW can bring together complementary strengths across engineering, biomedical innovation, artificial intelligence, precision health, biotechnology, business, and social impact to support future research collaboration, talent development, innovation translation, and regional engagement.
Through this proposed partnership, Chulalongkorn University and UNSW aim to explore new models for university-led innovation that connect research excellence with real-world impact, support the next generation of talent, and contribute to Thailand’s and ASEAN’s growing role in transformative research and innovation.
