Smart Innovations for Preventive and Restorative Dentistry Research

Bioactive restorative materials, minimally invasive dentistry
ทิศทางการวิจัย
Our research aims to promote sustainable well-being by improving oral health care, which is essential for eating, drinking, and personality/confidence. We therefore integrate three smart approaches for prevention and minimally invasive restorative dentistry including the exploration of plant-derived bioactive compounds and agricultural by-products as sustainable resources for oral health applications.
As the Thai population shifts towards an ageing society, retaining a greater number of natural teeth in the oral cavity becomes increasingly important for well-being. Our central goal is that people can eat, can drink, and can smile. Oral health problems in older adults are closely related to physiological changes, reduced manual dexterity, and dependence on caregivers, all of which make access to dental treatment difficult. Prevention is therefore the best strategy — not only for older adults, but for everyone at every stage of life.
Even when dental caries has already occurred, caries arrest and minimally invasive approaches are essential: they delay the vicious cycle of restoration and re-restoration, and reduce the need for re-treatment, which costs money, costs time, and generates dental waste. Our research group therefore links three main disciplines — material science, plant science, and minimally invasive dentistry — to build smart innovations for good oral health and well-being (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being), inclusive socio-economic benefit (SDG 8/9/10), and environmental sustainability (SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production).
